Binding spells are a special kind of love spell. Whereas regular love spells are used to make someone fall in love with someone else, a binding spell is usually used when two people are already together and one of them wants to make sure things stay that way.
That’s the theory anyway, but what about in practice? Do binding spells really work?
The Basis For All Love Spells
To answer that question, first it’s important to understand how all love spells work. And to understand free will.
All genuine love spells work in the same underlying way. They cause the person they spell is being cast on (we’ll call them the target) to feel love for the person who is casting the spell or having it cast for them (for simplicity, we’ll call them the caster.)
The love that the target feels is a real emotion. It’s exactly the same way they would feel if they fell in love ‘naturally’ (I put that in quotes because biologically, there is no difference – the chemical processes in the brain are identical). Eventually the love becomes so strong that they become compelled to act on it, to do something about it. Which of course, means approaching the caster.
And that’s the crucial point here; the target makes the decision themselves to approach the caster. The spell doesn’t force them to do it. In other words, they act of their own free will.
This is important. You see, spells cannot affect a person’s free will. Sure, we’ve all seen Harry Potter and the various curses that make another person carry out ones bidding. But that’s just a film, reality is somewhat different. Free will is sacred, and cannot simply be manipulated.
Where Does This Leave Binding Spells?
The whole premise of a binding spell is that it forces the target to remain with the caster. If the caster feels the need to cast this spell, it is presumably because they have reason to believe that the target wishes to, or may in the future wish to, stray from them.
So for a binding spell to work, it would have to force the target to remain with the caster against their free will. And free will cannot be manipulated. Therefore, binding spells in the sense we normally think of them, cannot work.
All Is Not Lost
However, that doesn’t mean spells cannot be used to keep two people together. A normal love spell can be used on a regular basis to keep the love alive.
A casting (not too powerful) can be carried out every few months to deepen the love in the relationship. Having said that, if a spell is required too often, it would be wise to ask the question is this relationship really the best for both of us? After all, a normal loving relationship should be able to survive without continued assistance from magic love spells.
